The American Dairy Products Institute was established under its current name on April 17, 1986, through a merger of the American Dry Milk Institute, founded in 1925, and the Whey Protein Institute, founded in 1971.
Award now called the C. Earl Gray Award of Merit in honor of Chester Earl Gray, a pioneering founder of one of ADPI’s legacy organizations.

In June 1925, C. Earl Gray, at the time with the Golden State Company Ltd., led the formation and development of the American Dry Milk Institute. At the first meeting of its members, he was elected Chairman and was reconfirmed each year until his death in 1944.

Dairy Foods magazine and the American Dairy Products Institute (ADPI), Elmhurst, Ill., will be honoring one deserving dairy processor with the 2022 Breakthrough Award for Dairy Ingredient Innovation.
The event is specifically designed to help dairy industry participants learn the key concepts involved in managing price risk and volatility in the dairy commodity markets.
The award was established in 1991 to recognize individuals who have made a significant difference in the processed dairy products industry.
