Listen up dairy industry: Unless we embrace a fundamental strategic change, the only white milk that will be consumed in the United States will be out of a baby bottle or a Starbucks cup.
Sales of flavored milk are growing, as are those of whole milk. Innovation is reinvigorating the category, and plant-based milk alternatives are facing scrutiny by the media and consumers.
Dairy processors need to continue to push the innovation envelope as fluid milk continues its battle for share in the crowded beverage market.

It’s been a painful time for fluid milk, but the fluid milk industry is now moving beyond the gallon jug to address changing consumer needs more aggressively, primarily through the introduction of low volume, niche or branded products.

The worst thing that could ever happen to fluid milk is to use aseptic packaging because the dairy industry would lose those great big electronic display cases that now adorn over 10,000 Class A grocery stores in the United States.
