Michael Dykes, D.V.M., president and CEO of the Washington, D.C.-based International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), released a statement on May 14 on the Recourse Loan Program for Commercial Processors of Dairy Products in the HEROES Act legislation.
The partners, including cheesemaker Pineland Farms Dairy and dairy cooperative DFA, will distribute thousands of pounds of cheese to food pantries, shelters and more.

Good Shepherd Food Bank, Pineland Farms Dairy Company Inc., Libra Foundation and Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) will distribute thousands of pounds of cheese to food-insecure Mainers through Maine’s emergency food distribution network, Bangor, Maine-based Pineland Farms Dairy said.
DFA selected nine startup companies to participate in this year’s class.

On May 8, USDA said it approved $1.2 billion in contracts to support American producers and communities in need through the USDA Farmers to Families Food Box Program.
In a May 6 letter to Wisconsin Dairy Product Association (WDPA) members, WDPA Executive Director Brad Legreid said the association’s board decided to reschedule the 2020 Dairy Symposium because of the coronavirus crisis.
The dairy cooperative is focusing locally first to maximize impact.

The Tillamook County Creamery Association (TCCA), Tillamook, Ore., said its farmer-owners have committed $4 million to a comprehensive COVID-19 relief plan to help its employees, the communities in which the company operates, and industry partners respond to and recover from burdens created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
