The International Dairy Foods Association honored 137 dairy company operations with Dairy Industry Safety Recognition Awards and Achievement Certificates. It is the 13th year that IDFA has sponsored the program, which highlights outstanding worker safety records of U.S. dairy companies.
Alqueria Dairy (Bogota, Colombia), Alqueria Dairy (Santa Marta, Colombia), Prairie Farms (Carlinville, Ill.) and Umpqua Dairy Products Co. (Roseburg, Ore.) took the top Quality Chekd honors in dairy excellence, plant performance and marketing, respectively, at the 2016 QCS Leadership Conference in April.
Brookshire Grocery Co. Manufacturing, Tyler, Texas, was named member of the year at the All Star Association’s 58th annual convention in March. Fifty-two member companies and 42 suppliers attended.
Milk processors are not the only dairy companies with ties to this summer’s Olympic games. Lifeway Foods, a maker of kefir and other cultured dairy beverages, Carli Lloyd to serve as brand ambassador.
Shamrock Farms was named a Top 10 supplier to Wendy’s Restaurants by Quality Supply Chain Co-op Inc., an independent purchasing cooperative for restaurants owned by The Wendy’s Co.
Dairy processors reduce their costs and environmental footprints in a number of ways. Hilmar Cheese received a U.S. Dairy Sustainability Award for its efforts. Land O’Lakes and Aurora Organic have their own approaches.
