Retail purchasing behavior has shifted dramatically in recent weeks. As part of that shift, Americans have embraced milk — a staple already in 94% of homes — even more so than they typically do, according to the Washington, D.C.-based Milk Processors Education Program (MilkPEP).
The company said donations will focus, in particular, on New York and New Jersey residents who are facing hunger as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Maple Hill Creamery, a Kinderhook, N.Y.-based producer of grass-fed organic dairy products, said it partnered with New York State's Department of Agriculture and Markets, on behalf of Governor Cuomo and nonprofit Feeding America, to distribute 200,000 cartons of its grass-fed organic milk and grass-fed yogurt to residents in need.
The dairy company also will introduce the nation’s first fully renewable plant-based milk carton.

In 2019, lactose-free milk sales grew twice as fast as sales of plant-based beverages, with lactose-free poised to surpass almond-beverage sales this year, according to the Arlington, Va.-based National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF), citing data from Chicago-based market research firm IRI.
The federation calls attention to the importance of animal welfare in ingredient sourcing.
