Now that the Tebow Train has derailed, it’s time to focus our attention on more important football-related items — the Super Bowl commercials.
And this year, it’s not all about beer and snacks.
That’s because the Dannon Co., White Plains, N.Y., will advertise during the Super Bowl XLVI on Feb. 5, making it the first yogurt company in history to advertise during the annual football event.
“We’re bringing yogurt to the Super Bowl to share with millions of Americans the great taste and unique benefits of this delicious, better-for-you food,” says Sergio Fuster, senior vice president of marketing for Dannon. “We are committed to helping people lead a healthier lifestyle but not at the sacrifice of great taste. No matter who’s playing in the game on Feb. 5, we are guaranteed to inform and entertain the broadest possible base of Americans about the delicious and nutritious yogurt we make.”
The yogurt commercial will feature Dannon Oikos Greek yogurt and actor and "Full House" alum John Stamos.
“We’re advertising Dannon Oikos during the big game to help Americans continue to make better food choices, and our Greek yogurt is an ideal choice,” says Michael Neuwirth, senior director of public relations. “This new ad takes our campaign of ‘Possibly the Best Yogurt in the World’ to a whole new place and takes our relationship with John Stamos to a whole new level.”
The Greek-American actor knows a thing or two about health. He acted in the television series "General Hospital" (1982 to 1984) and in "ER" (2005 to 2009). On Full House (1987 to 1995), he played Uncle Jesse.
Dairy foods have long been a part of Super Bowl parties, what with sour cream dips, cheese-topped pizzas and chili with cheese. This Sunday, Greek yogurt will be on the menu. Maybe that will start a new tradition in front of flat screen. In the words of Uncle Jesse (quoting his idol Elvis Presley), “Uh, thankya vurry much.”
