The University of Tennessee was the big winner in the 95th Collegiate Dairy Products Evaluation Contest. University of Tennessee students Michael Luethker and Katie Magee claimed honors in the undergraduate and Graduate Student All Products categories.
Agropur USA, Eden Prairie, Minn., is the first recipient of the Breakthrough Award for Dairy Ingredient Innovation, a new competition from the American Dairy Products Institute and Dairy Foods. The magazine will present the award to Agropur at ADPI’s annual meeting in Chicago in April.

At ProFood Tech, The Chemours Co. promoted a service that communicates that nutritional components in milk have not be degraded by light as the package sits on a retailer’s shelf.
In March, the leaders of three major U.S. dairy organizations traveled to Mexico City to re-affirm their industries’ strong commitment to their partnership with Mexico’s dairy industry and consumers.
Natural cheese is the consumer choice, with shreds, cubes and slices the preferred forms. Meanwhile, processed cheese spreads/balls are one beacon of light for that category.
Sales indicate that consumers continue to prefer natural over processed cheese, with slices, shreds and cubes sales getting a boost. In the processed cheese category, cheese spreads/balls was the only segment with positive sales numbers.

Vermont Creamery Co-Founders Bob Reese and Allison Hooper and Land O'Lakes Inc. President and CEO Chris Policinski announced that the two businesses have joined forces.
The earnings were helped by the acquisition of the remaining 50% equity interest in DairiConcepts, a manufacturer of cheese, dairy ingredients and dairy flavor systems.

The dairy cooperative Dairy Farmers of America said 2016 sales fell 2% to $13.5 billion as net income rose 40% to $38 million. The retail and fluid milk/ice cream divisions also grew.
