More than 2.5 billion pounds of cheese were bought by industrial users, accounting for 25% of all cheese consumed in the United States. Cheese exports are up 575% since 2000.
Customers in Mexico, Asia and the Middle East want U.S. cheese. But exporters have to know the nuances of each market. For example, most Chinese consumers probably have little experience with natural cheese.
Darigold and Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative Association have a contract to sell Cheddar, Gouda and Monterey Jack and butter.

Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative Association and Northwest Dairy Association (Darigold) will sell 3.296 million pounds of Cheddar, Gouda and Monterey Jack cheese and 493,284 pounds of butter to customers in Asia and Europe.
