The International Dairy Foods Association honored 137 dairy company operations with Dairy Industry Safety Recognition Awards and Achievement Certificates. It is the 13th year that IDFA has sponsored the program, which highlights outstanding worker safety records of U.S. dairy companies.
The picture for cheesecakes, whip toppings and frozen puddings is not pretty. Sales dropped in all those segments. Sales of frozen sweet goods show some promise.
Ice cream sales may be climbing (see our August issue), but sales for most frozen dessert segments took a beating. Unit sales of frozen cheesecakes, pudding/mousse and whip toppings all decreased. Meanwhile, frozen sweet goods sales ticked up.
With raw milk prices low and demand for cheese, yogurt and other dairy foods high, America’s dairy processors are opening up their checkbooks to buy new equipment. A survey by BNP Market Research (Dairy Foods’ research arm) found that 56% of dairy processors are buying equipment this year and 60% plan to buy in 2017.

Grupo Lala, a dairy company headquartered in Mexico, today announced a new division named Lala U.S., headquartered in Dallas. The move is expected to strengthen ties with retailers and consumers.

The Idaho Milk Processors Association Conference, Aug. 11 to 12, includes a panel discussion among dairy experts dubbed "The Future of Food" that addresses balancing consumer trends and food security.
Speakers at the Membrane Technology Forum (membraneforum.com) in June presented important concepts and ideas in processing, from fundamentals of membrane technology to fouling and cleaning.
Ice cream sales continue to show promise as dollar and unit sales both see a boost. Frozen novelty sales also went up, thanks to price increases, because unit sales were almost at a standstill.
