“The top five companies remain unchanged in their position on the list, yet there are now two Chinese companies in the rank of the largest 15 companies, whereas there were none in the top 20 until 2008,” said Rabobank analyst Tim Hunt. “In contrast, the lack of a U.S.-based global consolidator means that the rankings of U.S. companies has declined.”
Dairy Maid has been owned and operated by the Vona family since 1946 and is currently led by brothers, Jimmy and Jody. The Vonas will continue to manage the day-to-day operations.

Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) has acquired Dairy Maid Dairy. Located in Frederick, Md., Dairy Maid is a family-owned processor of milk, juice and fruit drinks. Dairy Maid has been owned and operated by the Vona family since 1946.
Darigold and Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative Association have a contract to sell Cheddar, Gouda and Monterey Jack and butter.

Maryland & Virginia Milk Producers Cooperative Association and Northwest Dairy Association (Darigold) will sell 3.296 million pounds of Cheddar, Gouda and Monterey Jack cheese and 493,284 pounds of butter to customers in Asia and Europe.
Dean Foods loses its No. 1 spot because it sold Morningstar to Saputo and spun off WhiteWave. Nestlé is the largest publicly held firm, Schreiber Foods is the largest privately owned business and Land O'Lakes is the top dairy co-op.
Nestlé USA is North America's largest dairy processor, bumping off Dean Foods Co. which held the spot for at least half of the 20 years that Dairy Foods has been compiling the Dairy 100.

Kraft Foods Group, Inc. Northfield, Ill., reported today that net revenues in the second quarter declined 1.1% to $4.7 billion and that operating income increased 53.5% to $1.4 billion in the period. In the company's Cheese Segment, revenues increased from a combination of higher prices, volume gains and improved product mix with significant gains in Kraft natural cheeses and Velveeta.
The company said earnings improvements year-on-year have been driven mainly by its Dairy Foods division, which had been negatively impacted in the first half of 2012.

Land O'Lakes said sales increases during the second quarter were achieved in all three core businesses, which include Dairy Foods, Crop Inputs (WinField) and Feed (Purina Animal Nutrition). First half sales were improved in all business segments, including Layers.
First quarter consolidated operating income totaled $71 million, compared to first quarter 2012 consolidated operating income of $90 million.

Dean Foods Company (NYSE: DF) today announced strong first quarter 2013 results. The Company reported first quarter 2013 diluted earnings per share of $2.63, compared to first quarter 2012 earnings per share of $0.20. These financial results reflect the January 2013 sale of the Company's Morningstar business, the gain of which is the primary driver of the diluted earnings of $2.63 per share and is reflected in discontinued operations, as well as the Company's majority ownership interest in its consolidated subsidiary, The WhiteWave Foods Company
The company saw "significant consumption growth" in its natural cheeses and Velveeta business in the first three months of the year.
