It has been an excellent past 12 months — and beyond — for Kansas City, Kan.-based Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), a national farmer-owned cooperative with nearly 11,000 family-farm owners and about 19,000 employees.

As our State of the Industry report, appearing last issue proves, milk sales are mixed compared to prior years. Total dairy milk sales totaled nearly $15.6 billion for the year ending Aug. 13.

The program established by Congress in the 2018 Farm Bill and is one of the Department’s key nutrition incentive programs for participants in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The Dairy Alliance and VSDA funded and facilitated the acquisition of three-spout milk dispensers and essential accessories for selected schools.

 The use of HMOs is propelled by numerous scientific studies that show the importance of these components in gut and immune health as well as cognitive development in infants, the company said.

Using ingredients sourced from local farmers, the new facility will process and bottle a variety of milk options including gallon, half gallon, whole, 2%, 1%, skim and 1% chocolate milk for Walmart’s Great Value and Sam’s Club’s Member’s Mark brands. 

IDFA cannot pinpoint the cause of the shortage, but stressed there is plenty of milk. Instead, there is a packaging problem that should be alleviated.
