Perry’s Ice Cream Company Inc., Akron, N.Y., says it is bringing back its Zero Visibility flavor for a limited time. The variety, available in a 1.5-quart container, is coconut rum ice cream with shredded coconut pieces.
According to Perry’s, the much-anticipated flavor dates back to 1997. It was first launched to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the “Blizzard of ‘77” — the iconic snowstorm that left Buffalo, N.Y., and its surrounding areas at a standstill from Jan. 28 - Feb. 1, 1977. Since its debut, Perry’s has rereleased the flavor every five years as a limited edition.
“In the nearly 25 years since Zero Visibility was released, this flavor has earned legendary status as one of Perry’s most requested flavors of all time,” says Gayle Perry Denning, vice president of strategic branding and sustainability. “As new generations have experienced their share of many memorable snowstorms to follow, Zero Visibility has evolved into a dedication to residents of the wider Great Lakes region and their hearty spirit that gets them through the long winter months.”
Perry’s says Zero Visibility’s packaging stands out against the company’s signature black by featuring a “whiteout” look and a special message to consumers: “Just one spoonful of this snowy coconut blend with a hint of rum will warm your bones after shoveling out your neighbor.” The flavor is now available at retailers throughout Upstate New York and Western Pennsylvania; it has a suggested retail price of $6.99.
