Milwaukee-based Chr. Hansen Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of the Hoersholm, Denmark, Chr. Hansen Group, said it launched The Probiotics Institute — a new online platform providing inspirational and educational content on probiotics and the human microbiome. The platform was created in response to the difficulties that health care professionals and consumers face in finding clinical-based information from trustworthy sources about probiotics.

As the probiotics market continues to grow, so does the number of misconceptions about probiotic products and their effects. Chr. Hansen said it set out to demystify and provide information about probiotics to health care professionals and the general public in the United States.

According to Chr. Hansen, The Probiotics Institute is dedicated to inspiring and educating consumers and healthcare professionals about the world of probiotics and the human microbiome. The aim is to provide relevant and engaging content on probiotics and the probiotic strains and solutions offered by Chr. Hansen. At its launch, The Probiotics Institute will target audiences in the United States only.

“It is our ambition that The Probiotics Institute will foster the interaction of users and become a natural forum of reference and interaction for health care professionals and science communities,” said Andrew Scorey, senior vice president for human health, Chr. Hansen.

Chr. Hansen said The Probiotics Institute is designed to give visitors the optimal user experience. The front page will give new visitors a clear understanding of what The Probiotics Institute is and what information they can find, while returning visitors will be able to see what is new and be inspired to read more.

“We know that health care professionals and consumers have to distinguish reliable evidence from many conflicting scientific studies of varying quality,” said Scorey. “We want to help them make informed choices in the probiotic jungle. We will do this by providing high-quality content on The Probiotics Institute, [which is] also relevant for customers, journalists and bloggers needing information, scientific data or educational content within the field of probiotics.”
