The team of 180 employees at Lake Country Dairy is very honored and humbled to receive the 2018 Dairy Foods’ Plant of the Year award. Receiving this award means we are doing things right, and we have a solid foundation in our Core Purpose and Core Values that our employees uphold every day.
The Lake Country Dairy team has always had a “can do” attitude, thus delivering what our customers want. We are a very young plant (13 years of making cheese) with a young management and supervisory team that is not sitting still or complacent in what yesterday was. This allows us to more easily adapt to the customers’ wants and needs for new products.
We take pride in our traditional hands-on approach. It’s this attention and care that helps ensure we are producing the highest-quality cheese in every wheel. Producing more than 24 million pounds of artisanal cheese annually, all in wheel format, truly means every employee has a hand in making our award-winning cheeses.
Lake Country Dairy is owned by Schuman Cheese, and it is the support and trust of the Schuman family that makes Lake Country Dairy who we are. The Schuman team supports our efforts every day, and we work as one to achieve our goals. Christophe Megevand, executive vice president of cheese manufacturing for Schuman Cheese, has over 40 years of cheesemaking experience, and his passion and knowledge carry through to all our employees. His work on innovation, cheese evaluation and improving current cheeses is invaluable, and he continually pushes us to be better.
Just to be one of the 13 plants nominated is an honor, as that list boasts the best of the best across the country.
