Alden’s Organic ice cream
Alden’s Organic, Eugene, Ore., introduced clean, organic versions of three classic ice cream flavors: birthday cake, chocolate chip cookie dough and peanut butter fudge. The company said it does not use artificial ingredients in its ice cream (such as carrageenan, palm oil, mono- and diglycerides) that are typically found in conventional brands. Alden’s contains no high-fructose corn syrup and is made with organic milk and cream from cows humanely raised. The birthday cake flavor contains 160 calories, 8 grams of fat, 18 grams of sugar and 2 grams of protein per 1/2-cup serving. The new flavors are available in 1.5-quart cartons in natural food stores and conventional grocers nationwide. The suggested retail price ranges from $8.99 to $9.99 per 1.5-quart container.
