Challenge Dairy Products Inc., Dublin, Calif., introduced three new products to its portfolio:
- Lactose-free spreadable butter with canola oil
- Strawberry cream cheese spread
- Salsa cream cheese spread
The lactose-free butter removes the milk solids or lactose through a clarification process resulting in a clarified butter. The butter is then blended with canola oil to create a butter that spreads smoothly.
The butter is sold in 15-ounce tubs. It’s available nationwide in several retailers, such as Harris Teeter, Meijer, Winn Dixie, BI-Lo, Walmart, HEB, Jewel, Safeway Nor Cal, Savemart, Lucky’s, Vons, Albertsons So Cal, Albertson Arizona and Albertsons Intermountain divisions. The average retail price is $4.49.
The flavored cream cheese spreads are also available in several stores nationwide, and sold in 8-ounce tubs with an average retail price of $2.49. Retailers including: Walmart, Savemart, Lucky’s, Vons and Albertsons. The strawberry flavor is made with real strawberries. The salsa flavor is made with tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapenos, garlic, onions, cilantro and spices.
