Greydon introduced its newest Thermal Transfer Printer, the Docking Duo Thermal Transfer Printer for horizontal form/fill/seal packaging machines. The high-speed system is used to print high-quality graphics and variable data in one color.
Unlike other printers that are permanently mounted to the packaging machine, the Docking Duo Thermal Transfer Printer docks to the packaging machine. It can be quickly and easily rolled in and out as needed. This is a superior solution for packaging machines used in harsh environments, such as food plants. The Docking Duo Thermal Transfer Printer can be rolled out during washdowns and then rolled back in and docked when cleaning is complete, reducing maintenance to the electronics. It also allows easy access to the entire printer from all sides. The printer can be docked to the packaging machine in just seconds.
The system prints multiple rows of packages in the X or Y axis. It integrates with the packaging machine and prints during the dwell cycle. It features two 5-inch print heads for high-speed coverage of up to 10 inches in each pass. Because it uses two 5-inch heads rather than one 10-inch head, it reduces the high cost of transfer ribbon waste, according to the company.
The printer system eliminates the need for a large inventory of various pre-printed package films, resulting in a considerable cost savings. Instead, the packager can use a single pre-printed film and let the system print all of the variable data: product identification, bar codes, ingredients, nutritional facts, net weights and “sell by” dates. It prints at a resolution of 300 dpi.
