Lifeway Foods Inc., Morton Grove, Ill., launched Protein Kefir, a line extension designed to aid in muscle recovery after exercise. The nonfat cultured smoothie has 20 grams of protein and 160 calories per 8-ounce serving. It’s available in banana, mixed berry and vanilla flavors. The kefir is sold in 16-ounce bottles for a suggested retail price of $3.49. The company is looking to distribute to stores nationwide.
