Yoplait is introducing a unique concept that fuses fashion, marketing and dairy product together. Its new Yoplait Signature Collection features six limited-edition cups with designs inspired by dresses from fashion designer Christopher Straub, a past contestant on Project Runway.
The special designs appear on some of the Yoplait Original and Yoplait Light varieties. The three original yogurt flavors are Harvest Peach, Orange Crème and Strawberry. There also are three Light cups, Blueberry Patch, Key Lime Pie and Strawberries ‘N Bananas. According to the company, the flavors haven’t changed, only the cups have been styled by Straub.
The collection is available exclusively at U.S. Target stores nationwide, through February.
“I really thought about the personality of not only the flavors, but those textures and the colors in the dresses,” said Straub in a blog post announcing the designs on generalmills.com.
Straub is known for his out-of-the-box stylistic creations that evoke fantasy and whimsy, said the company in the blog announcement. Straub is also from Minneapolis, which is where Yoplait, a brand of General Mills, is based.
“Christopher had an existing relationship with the Yoplait team and has been a huge supporter of the brand,” said April Cathcart, key account manager in Dairy at General Mills. “His love of Yoplait, unique design talent and Minnesota roots made him the perfect partner to bring this project to life.”
Straub also created two original gowns, using Yoplait cups and lids, as part of the campaign. They will be unveiled at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in February. Samples of the limited-edition Yoplait Signature Collection cups also will be available there too, and Yoplait will host a special reception featuring Straub.
