June is National Dairy Month, so Dairy Foods has selected five favorite new dairy products to highlight from several dairy categories.
Cheese
New in cheese and recently introduced at the IDDBA show is Jarlsberg Minis. The cheeses come in 5, 20 gram minis in eye-catching 100 gram bags, for easy deli merchandising. Each mini has been dipped in wax and wrapped in cellophane, replicating the popular Jarlsberg wheel.
Ideal for grab-and-go snacking, the cheese is all natural and contains 70 calories and 5 grams of protein per piece. The cheeses are available nationally for a suggested retail price of $4.99.
Jarlsberg is a Norseland Inc. brand.
Milk
In the milk aisle, inspired by fresh fruits and decadent desserts, Hiland Dairy, Springfield, Mo., introduced three new flavored milks for the summer: Low-fat strawberry banana, low-fat vanilla cupcake and reduced-fat chocolate truffle. The flavors are available for a limited-time only.
Cultured
Batavia, N.Y.-based Alpina Foods reinvented its line of yogurt smoothies to offer a thicker, creamier texture, a new package design and new flavors.
Alpina's updated yogurt smoothie has 7 grams of protein per 7-ounce serving. The new product was reformulated to also have less sugar, 2.6 grams per once. The smoothie line is currently available in four flavors: vanilla, mango, strawberry and strawberry banana. Alpina will be adding new indulgent flavors later this year, like cherry, dulce de leche and tropical coconut.
Heluva Good!, a brand of HP Hood LLC, Lynnfield, Mass., added a limited-edition Roasted Garlic & Caramelized Onion sour cream dip this past spring. The dip is available in a 12-ounce container and sold in major grocers and retailers nationwide.
Ice cream novelties
Husband and wife team Kim and Scott Holstein founders of Kim & Scott’s Gourmet Pretzels, Pennsauken, N.J., have now introduced The Crave Bar — an all-natural, hand-dipped ice cream bar fused onto a salted caramel pretzel stick and available in three flavors: dark chocolate, milk chocolate and cappuccino. The Crave Bar combines crunchy gourmet pretzel, artisanal chocolate and super premium ice cream.
The Crave Bar can be found in Chicago at Mariano’s Fresh Market, Ravinia Festival, Foodstuffs, Goddess and the Grocer, Millennium Park with Goose Island, Hyatt McCormick Place, Nick’s Bar and Grill, The Rock House, Noodles Small Plates in Wilmette and on www.TheCraveBar.com.
