Demand in China for top-end UHT milk products that are organic and of high nutritious value is growing. The Chinese also depend more and more on foreign infant/young child’s formula milk powder. Those are two conclusions from an analysis by the consulting group Beijing Shennong Kexin Argibusiness Consulting Co., Ltd.
The top-end UHT milk products are mostly 100% foreign-made and imported mainly from New Zealand, Australia, Germany and France. The huge demand for top-end products spurred the growth of UHT milk import. The import was 80,000 tons in 2012, up 1 fold from 2011.
There is scarcity of quality raw milk supply due to the smallholder scattered farming. UHT milk import sshall continue to grow alongside the expansion of top-end markets in medium and small cities.
