At the end of 2011, Northfield, Ill.-based Kraft Foods promised many new products for the coming year. They’ve started rolling out, with the first peek suggesting that some of the offerings will be nothing more than new spins on old products. For example, Kraft Fresh Take is simply a spiked version of its almost 50-year-old Shake ’n Bake product combined with shredded cheese. Found in the dairy aisle, the two ingredients are packaged in a compartmentalized bag that also serves as a mixing bowl, requiring minimal preparation and no-mess cleanup. Simply open the bag to break the center seal, combine the cheese and seasoned breadcrumbs, coat the meat or fish and bake to the proper temperature. Varieties are: Cheddar Jack & Bacon (savory herbs, bacon, Monterey Jack, cheddar and provolone), Chili Lime & Panko (chili peppers and lime with Colby and Monterey Jack), Italian Parmesan (parsley, garlic and onion with Parmesan and mozzarella), Rosemary & Roasted Garlic (rosemary and garlic with mozzarella, provolone, Parmesan and Romano), Savory Four Cheese (roasted garlic and onion with feta, mozzarella, provolone and Parmesan) and Southwest Three Cheese (garlic, cumin and red chili pepper with Colby, mozzarella and cheddar).
