Biovelop AB has launched a new oat-based soluble fiber ingredient called PromOat that is said to be free from the taste and color of oats. The clean-label and gluten-free ingredient will enable dairy processors to incorporate the health benefits of oats into their products.
Produced from Swedish oats and a patented, chemical-free separation process, PromOat is rich in oat beta glucan (35%). Products containing PromOat can access the EFSA- and FDA-approved health claims linking oat beta glucan to the maintenance of healthy cholesterol levels. One serving of PromOat is said to be equivalent to several servings of porridge, producing a satiety effect and discouraging snacking between meals.PromOat can be used as an effective fat-replacer, emulsifier, stabilizer and viscosity modifier. In addition, it is said to provide dairy products with an indulgent mouth-feel. The ingredient has been positively trialed in fermented, low pH milk drinks, buttermilk products, low-fat cream cheeses and crème fraiche-type products.
