PMMI has issued a call for nominations for the Packaging Hall of Fame class of 2009. Nominations are due to Ben Miyares, vice president, industry relations, PMMI, no later than Aug. 3.

The Packaging Hall of Fame recognizes career packaging professionals for their significant contributions to the industry and packaging education. The honor, which PMMI coordinates, has been awarded annually since 1971.

“Nominations can come from any industry professional. Nominees must fit the qualifications, but the honor can be presented posthumously,” says Miyares, a 2008 inductee.

Any industry professional may nominate a candidate. Qualified nominees for the Packaging Hall of Fame should be career packaging professionals – living or deceased – who, in the course of their packaging careers, have:

  • Personally advanced the science, technology and practice of packaging (In submitting nominations, please be specific, citing scientific inquiries, advanced technologies, patents, etc.)

  • Expanded packaging knowledge and understanding of packaging (Please cite significant roles played in packaging education, research, market analyses, articles/publications written, etc.)

  • Been a remarkable volunteer leader in the packaging community (Please cite packaging associations/organizations in which nominee played leadership roles, made achievements during nominee’s leadership tenure, etc.)

To nominate an individual, go to the online nomination form, and describe, in 1,500 words or less, how your nominee meets the above qualifications.

Once nominations are received, members of the Packaging Hall of Fame Commission, a group representing various sectors of the packaging community and formed by PMMI, will select the inductees.

The 2009 Packaging Hall of Fame inductees will be recognized during a fundraising awards reception at the Las Vegas Hilton on October 5, during Pack Expo 2009 (at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas; Oct.5–Oct. 7).
