Darwin P. Geringer, president of The Benjamin P. Forbes Co., Cleveland, died March 4, of cancer. He was hired by the founder of the103-year-old company in 1946 and purchased it 40 years later. Forbes Chocolate developed the non-settling chocolate powder used by the dairy industry to flavor chocolate milk. The company now supplies milk and ice cream flavoring to dairies and dairy product companies throughout the Western Hemisphere.
Metron Instruments/On-Line Instrumentation has moved it's Poughkeepsie, N.Y. production facility to Cleveland. The move consolidates production with Metron's headquarters and increases the company's development, service and production capabilities. The company says increased capabilities have resulted from the centralization of all operating functions.
Stahlman Group Inc., New London, N.H., and its affiliate Stahlman Engineering Corp., are constructing a new 117,000 sq ft freezer facility at Pioneer Valley Refrigerated Warehouse Inc., in Chicopee, Mass. The project provides for the construction of two new -20ºF high bay storage freezers, and includes a new seven bay +36ºF refrigerated dock, a +36ºF battery charging room and general office space.
Charkit Chemical Corp., Darien, Conn., is now the exclusive distributor, within the NAFTA region, of Oxford Chemicals' aroma chemicals for application within the flavor and fragrance industry. The existing sales and distribution business of Oxford Chemicals Limited, based in Hartlepool, England, handled by its subsidiary - Oxford Organics Inc., Elizabeth, New Jersey, will transfer to Charkit concurrently with the appointment.
Unilever Ice Cream, the leading ice cream manufacturer in the United States, has appointed Pan American Food Brokers Inc., Miami, Fla., as its representative for the Independent South Florida Market. Pan American Food Brokers will be calling on Associated Grocers of Florida and its retail grocery chain customers.
