Effective today, the Alliance of Western Milk Producers, a coalition of California dairy processing cooperatives representing 60% of California’s milk, will cease to function.

Dairy Foods presented the Tom Camerlo Exporter of the Year award to Glanbia USA at the annual membership meeting of the U.S. Dairy Export Council in Washington, D.C.
Swiss Valley Farms said the Platteville facility had been non-operational after the dairy cooperative transferred production of its Baby Swiss wheels, loaves and no-salt-added Swiss blocks to White Hill Cheese, Shullsburg, Wis., in October 2011.

Swiss Valley Farms, Davenport, Iowa, said it sold its Platteville, Wis., cheese manufacturing facility to Tritent International Agriculture Inc., Chicago. The sale became effective Sept. 18, 2012. Details of the transaction are not being publicly disclosed.
Conventional milk’s national weighted average advertised price for half gallons this period, $2.27, is 14 cents below two weeks ago.

Cheese prices across the U.S. continued to move higher this week and milk production is increasing, to varying degrees, across most regions of the nation, reports the USDA's Dairy Market News.
It would sell only "if it can do so in a transaction that maximizes shareholder value and helps ensure the future success of the business."

The nation's largest dairy processor, Dean Foods, says it "recently decided to explore a transaction that may result in the sale of the Morningstar business."
IDFA shares concerns about industry fees and cautioned that a new Farm Bill proposal, recently endorsed by Secretary Tom Vilsack, would both raise fees and increase domestic milk prices.

The International Dairy Foods Association today responded to Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer’s concern that the Republican nominee for President, Mitt Romney, raised milk fees. IDFA shares concerns about industry fees and cautioned that a new Farm Bill proposal, recently endorsed by Secretary Tom Vilsack, would both raise fees and increase domestic milk prices.
Demand remains good for cheese into retail sales with some added featuring this week. Food service demand is also showing some added interest with most schools back in session.
