An ice cream plant and a cheese plant were among the dairy processors honored in April in the 2013 U.S. Dairy Sustainability Awards program of the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy, Rosemont, Ill.
Klondike Cheese traces its heritage to Switzerland. Today, the Wisconsin dairy processor thrives with its branded and private-label feta cheese and Greek yogurt products.
The state of Wisconsin has a long tradition of cheesemaking. Swiss, German and Italian immigrants processed local milk into the cheeses they knew from the Old Country, such as Emmenthal, Muenster and provolone.

The National Milk Producers Federation, Arlington, Va., has turned to social media to revitalize the Real Seal, which identifies foods made with milk from U.S. dairy farms. It is pushing back against foods made from grains, vegetables, plants and nuts and have usurped dairy designations like milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream.
U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer and PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi are on hand for the grand opening of a plant that manufactures Muller yogurt.

Muller Quaker Dairy, a joint venture between PepsiCo Inc. and Theo Muller Group opened a 350,000-square-foot state-of-the-art yogurt manufacturing facility in Batavia, N.Y., on June 3. The company is targeting LEED certification for the facility.
Milk, cheese, yogurt and ice cream facilities from across the United States have been nominated. Dairy Foods has toured each facility.

MilkPEP named Sunnyside Farms the winning processor in the Breakfast at Home category and the Borden Company of Florida the winner in the Refuel category. Both companies promoted milk through effective local marketing using MilkPEP’s free resources.
